Allepo style soap

September 12, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC+10

Welcome to the September 2020 Soaper’s Meet Up!

This Meet Up we will try an Allepo style soap. We were to have it earlier in the year but that meeting was canceled because of the Covid 19 restrictions. But we have all the ingredients and it is such a lovely soap! Suitable for all. It is a soap that has been made for centuries. Laurel Berry Oil is traditionally used, in conjunction with olive oil, for the making of Aleppo Soap. Rich and opulent, this ancient soap was supposedly used by Queen Cleopatra of Egypt and Queen Zenobia of Syria.

Many of the Allepo soap makers have lost their homes and businesses because of the war in Syria. Now the war is nearly over people are slowly returning to their homes. Please consider buying some authentic Aleppo soap from the Syrian soap makers.

Leave it unscented or bring your own favourite scent. Or use ours.

If bringing your own essential or fragrance oils you will need at least 30 grams. The essential oil will need to be 100% pure and not using any base oil or else the scent will not survive the saponification process.

Price per person:

$40 for unscented soap

$45 for scented soap

$48 to pay on the day if not pre-paid

Important things to remember about soap making

Making soap can be quite dangerous, so you will learn about soap safety on the day.

Caustic Soda, Lye, Sodium Hydroxide is the most important ingredient in making soap but also highly corrosive – this is not avoidable. By RSVPing, you acknowledge that these materials will be used on the day and near you and potentially handled by you – but as little as possible and you accept all liability.

Soap can take up to 6 weeks to fully cure before you can use, please do not use straight away.
